When it comes to the interview round in UPSC Civil Services Examination, there is no minimum qualifying marks or cutoff for the Interview Round. The ranks are calculated by adding marks obtained by an aspirant in UPSC CSE Mains (out of 1750) and Interview marks (out of 275).
Being the final stage of the examination, the purpose is to gauge a candidate’s administrative skills and potential of being a bureaucrat. The reason behind this is that the candidate has to serve in one of the most prestigious wings of the nation, which is directly responsible for the implementation of government policies and to cater to the larger welfare of the nation and its citizens.
Mostly the marks in this stage range from 40 percent to 80 percent. A score above 65 percent is said to be a good score and only the rare ones go above 75 percent in the interview.
A candidate can improve his total marks by working harder for this stage, if anyhow the mains marks happen to be a little low.
There is no cut-off trend to be provided for interview but you can have a look at some of the highest scores achieved by candidates till date-
